Content that's 'greyed out' or dimmed is currently locked. Much of the content we supply is exclusively available to owners or subscribers to a magazine and you'll need to provide proof of purchase by 'unlocking' the magazine. All content from that magazine issue will unlock at the same time.
FileSilo supports the following publications
We will be adding older content all the time, so keep an eye on your favourite titles.
You can add a magazine you've bought one of several ways.
Go to the URL in the magazine and follow the instructions in the popup window. This will ask you a question to prove ownership and then unlock the content.
Go to the FileSilo URL for that brand and find your issue in the list of available magazines (for example iCreate is at https://www.filesilo.co.uk/icreate. ). Click that issue and either select to unlock the content (via the button) or the popup will give you the option to do so. Note - From your account page you can see a list of the magazines you have already unlocked. Clicking 'Add a magazine' will ask you to choose the brand and take you to that brand’s FileSilo page. From there, select the issue you wish to unlock from the available ones listed.
There are a number of types of file that FileSilo stores ranging in size from a few kilobytes to several megabytes. You should note that larger files may take a while over a slower connection. Download managers may not work, because of the secure nature of FileSilo.
Videos on FileSilo are served using a video player called FlowPlayer. The videos are in both Ogg Vorbis and MP4 format to cover playback in all major web browsers. If videos can be downloaded, they will be in MP4 or Quicktime (.MOV) format. Apple’s QuickTime Player (download here) or VideoLAN’s VLC Media Player (download here) will handle playback of these formats.
Video should playback automatically using the built-in video player. Optionally, you can download some videos which will be in standard MP4 or Quicktime formats.
Audio tracks and samples are supplied in various formats, all of which are standards such as .mp3 or .wav formats. These will play in any media player. If you have downloaded audio files they will be in one of the following formats - MP3, WAV, AIFF or OGA. You can find out more about audio formats on Wikipedia
Sometimes multiple files will be packed together within a single .zip file to make them easier to download. The contained files need to be extracted first in order to access them. Usually you’ll already have the necessary software on your computer to do this, or you can easily find a tool to uncompress zip files by searching for 'zip file tool' in a search engine.
Tutorial content will be downloaded as a zip compressed file. See zipped files above.
If you are experiencing problems with images you have downloaded, make sure that the files have not become corrupted during transmission. If the file will not open in your usual image viewer, you may need to delete it and re-download.
Photoshop extras (brushes, plugins)
Photoshop brushes and plugins are installed by double-clicking the .abr file, or by opening the file directly from the brushes menu within Photoshop. Select the brush tool then click the down arrow and 'Load Brushes' from the dropdown menu.
Note, brushes and plugins will come with a supplied instruction text file. Brushes are compatible with most versions of Adobe Photoshop CS, but NOT with Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Web Themes (for popular site systems such as WordPress, Joomla and Drupal etc.) will be packaged in a zip folder. You should 'unzip' this folder to your working directory for you webfiles. Follow the 'readme' instructions within the zip for full installation, use and licensing information.
If your question isn't listed in the FAQ's, you can always contact our support team and we'll get back to you as quickly as we can.
Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Don't forget to tell us the email address you use for FileSilo and also the specific magazine and issue number (if relevant) you're having problems with.
All downloadable content is categorised in a number of ways. However, the easiest way to find content from a magazine is to navigate to the issue number specifically from the URL published in the magazine. This will take you to a page listing the content that is supplied with that magazine specifically.
You need to look carefully at the license details for each piece of content. We try and source assets that you will be able to use, but there are often limitations. Check out the licensing details page for more information.
Your subscriptions will be added to the system when you register with FileSilo.
If you are yet to set up an account with FileSilo you can register by clicking the registration process at the top right of any page.
During the registration process, you will be asked if you have any subscriptions you'd like to unlock. You will need to use your unique Subscriber ID number when you register. It can be found on any correspondence you receive from Future plc regarding your subs. Alternatively, the number can be found on the packaging of your magazine when you receive it through the post.
Digital subscriptions (such as through iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Zinio and Google) need to be added as individual purchases only.
If you already have an account on FileSilo, you can check and add additional subscriptions using the account management options (click 'Manage my account' under your name at the top right of the screen).
